The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has refuted claims suggesting that Ghana will face a nationwide power outage on Sunday, July 13, labelling the reports as "inaccurate and misleading." The confusion stems from an earlier announcement by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, who disclosed that temporary power supply interruptions may occur due to a scheduled shutdown by the energy company ENI.
The shutdown, planned for maintenance works and to boost gas production, is part of a routine operation, but misinterpretations of the announcement sparked public concern.
Clarifying the issue in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News on Wednesday, July 9, the Ministry's Spokesperson and Head of Communication, Richmond Rockson, strongly denied the suggestion that the country was headed for a full-scale blackout or a return to prolonged power rationing. "I have seen some misreporting from some media houses that there will be a nationwide blackout.
That is not what the Minister said.
