Tensions almost flared during the 40-day observance for the late former Akwatia Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi, when the National Chairman of the governing (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and his entourage entered the Wenchi Durbar grounds to commiserate with the bereaved family.

A viral video shared on captured the moment when some angry supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) attempted to physically confront the NDC chairman and his security detail.

The NDC team however resisted the attacks until personnel from the Ghana Police Service arrived to provide reinforcement.

It took the intervention of the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye and former Eastern Regional NPP Chairman Kingston Akomeng Kissi to calm the supporters and cleared a path for Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and his entourage to proceed to where the former President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo and former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia were seated to pay their respects.
