Ghana's Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam George, is expected to hold a decisive meeting today, Friday, July 4, 2025, with both the Ghanaian and South African representatives of DSTV, aimed at securing a reduction in subscription fees for Ghanaian consumers.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, July 3, Sam George made it clear that the government would not compromise on its demand for lower prices.
He emphasized that the state has a responsibility to shield its citizens from unfair pricing and stressed that this long-standing concern must be resolved by the end of the meeting. "We will use the power of the state to protect the citizens of the state. "I am clear in my mind that the meeting will not come to an end without an agreed reduction in the price," he stated firmly.
The minister also pushed back against DSTV's recent attempt to offer upgrades on existing packages as a form of compensation, calling it a distraction from the real issue at hand.
