Ghanaian entertainment pundit and media personality, Gifty Nana Yaa Yeboah, professionally known as MC Yaa Yeboah, has raised alarm over what she describes as a growing and disturbing trend of explicit sexual content being livestreamed by some young people on TikTok. Speaking on UTV's United Showbiz over the weekend, Yaa Yeboah made an earnest appeal to the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon.
Sam George, urging him to turn his attention to Ghana's social media space-particularly TikTok, where these acts are being broadcasted live."I want to draw the attention of Honorable Sam George to something that has become a trend on social media, especially on TikTok, which is nothing to write home about," she said.
According to her, there are increasing instances where individuals go live on TikTok to engage in sexually explicit acts, including public masturbation and live sex, often with very little to no content moderation. "As I sit here and speak to you, people go live on TikTok and engage in live sex acts and masturbation.
They ask viewers inappropriate questions, instruct them to expose themselves, twerk, and more-right there on live video," she explained.
