Editor of The NewsCenta newspaper, Elvis Darko, has thrown his full support behind suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, urging her not to back down in the face of mounting pressure.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Channel One TV's Breakfast Daily, Darko described the Chief Justice's continued defiance as a much-needed confrontation of the deep-rooted structural weaknesses within Ghana's Judiciary. "This is the best thing she has done so far," he said. "I've said from the beginning that she should never resign. "What she's doing is forcing this country to confront the truth that the Judiciary is weak and increasingly at the mercy of the Executive due to the way certain laws are crafted." Darko argued that whether or not Chief Justice Torkornoo is eventually removed, her decision to challenge the process shines a necessary spotlight on the growing erosion of judicial independence.

He emphasized that the Judiciary, now more than ever, must assert its autonomy and resist political interference. "Whether she is removed or not, she has made it clear that the system is flawed. "Judges must now understand that if they don't fight for their independence, any government can target them," he cautioned.

He further called on the embattled Chief Justice to see her legal and moral resistance as a legacy-defining moment-not just for herself but for the entire judicial system. "She must fight this till the very end, not just for herself, but for the future of Ghana's justice system. "Right now, the Judiciary is the weakest arm of government.
