Director of Communication and Corporate Affairs at Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Emma Osei-Duah, has praised the company's role in elevating the image of sanitation work, particularly street sweeping, in Ghana.
According to her, the company's deliberate efforts to bring structure, professionalism, and visibility to the sector have made once-undervalued jobs both respectable and desirable.
Speaking during an interview on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem, Madam Osei-Duah recounted Zoomlion's journey over the past two decades and its impact on Ghana's waste management landscape. "We realised that there was no dignity in sweeping jobs, and that was why we decided to give them uniforms," she explained. "Due to the transformation, the job has now become attractive." She revealed that what was once considered menial work is now seen as a stepping stone to greater opportunities, with several workers having progressed into roles such as accountants and even PhD holders. "We have a lot of new people in the job, while others who started off as sweepers are now accountants, PhD holders, among others," she said, beaming with pride.
Zoomlion, which operates under the Jospong Group of Companies, has grown to become a key player in Ghana's sanitation and waste management sector.
