The National Chairman of the (NDC), , popularly known as General Mosquito, has commented on the recent strike action by members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
According to him, he believes that many of the nurses participating in the strike may not be employees of the government but merely members of the association who have decided to foment trouble.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Onua TV with Captain Smart, he expressed his confusion over why individuals working in private health facilities would be allowed to lead the protest instead of those directly affected by the industrial action. "Not all members of the professional group are employed by the government; some practice privately.
Allowing a privately practising individual to lead negotiations with the government, despite not being paid by it, creates confusion in the negotiation process. "I have always maintained that, for instance, not all members of the Ghana Medical Association are employed by the government.
