The government has officially announced the termination of its sanitation partnership between the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and waste management company Zoomlion Ghana Limited, signaling a major policy shift in the country's public sanitation program.   According to a letter from the Presidency dated June 11, 2025, the contract, which formed part of the sanitation module under the YEA, expired earlier in 2024 and will not be renewed.

The announcement was made in response to a petition submitted by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, who has long raised concerns about transparency and efficiency within the sanitation initiative."The contract between Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and Zoomlion Ghana Limited ('Zoomlion') has expired and will not be renewed," the Presidency stated.

The government also disclosed that it would be taking a closer look at all payments made to Zoomlion after the contract's expiration, promising a comprehensive audit to verify every disbursement.

It assured the public that any unauthorised payments uncovered during this process would be retrieved. "All payments made to Zoomlion after the contract's expiration will be thoroughly audited.
