Candidatestaking the Basic Education Certif­icate Examination (BECE) in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality of the Greater Accra Region have been advised to avoid examination malpractices if they want to pass successfully in this year's examinations.The Member of Parliament (MP) for La Constituency, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, gave the advice when she presented math­ematical sets, soft drinks, bottled water, biscuits to the BECE can­didates in Accra to support them throughout the exams.Ms Sowah said exam malprac­tices were a recipe for failure and could lead to cancellation of the entire papers.The MP said as a candidate "all you need to do now is to rely on what your teachers have thought you so far and also pray for Gods direction and favour.Ms Sowah who is also the Dep­uty Minister for Local Govern­ment, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, said her office is going to award private and public students who performed well in the BECE with a cash scholarship.The MP said this is one of the many ways to motivate students to give out their best at school and in exams.She said that it is not true that Free Senior High School has been cancelled but rather private schools had been added to the initiative to enable more students to enjoy the policy.The Municipal Education Director for La Dade- Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), Habiba Kotomah indicated that this year 3,359 comprising of 1,598 boys and 1,761 candidates are writing the exams at 12 cen­ters across the municipalityAccording to her 2,415 are writing from the public schools with 944 from the private schools.She urged the candidates to make sure they follow all the exam rules before and during the period.The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of LaDMA, Alfredos Nii Anyetei, said the municipality has not recorded any malpractice in the history of the examinations but choked remarkable success in grand style."Add on to the success stories of your predecessor to raise the standards of education in the municipality," Mr Anyetei added BY VICTOR A.
