The decision by Minority Members of Parliament to storm the Police Headquarters in protest over the delayed declaration of the Ablekuma North parliamentary results has been dismissed as a misplaced priority by the National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye.
The NPP Minority MPs on Wednesday, June 4 marched to the Police Headquarters to present a petition to the IGP, demanding protection for the EC to announce the delayed Ablekuma North results.
Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh told journalists that the caucus was concerned that the delay was creating unnecessary political tension.
But Vanderpuye noted that the Electoral Commission (EC), not the police, was constitutionally mandated to declare election results for which reason any concern regarding delays should be addressed through the appropriate legal or administrative channels.
