Samson Lardy Anyenini, the lawyer representing Dr Mahama Tia Kabiru, has expressed surprise at the decision by the High Court to nullify the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Walewale parliamentary primary.

Dr Kabiru, who was initially declared the winner of the contentious primary, faced legal challenges that culminated in a June 24 injunction.

This injunction prevented him from presenting himself as the elected parliamentary candidate (PC) of the NPP in the constituency.

Following the court's decision on Monday, September 2, 2024, the NPP announced the timelines for the re-run of the parliamentary primary in the Walewale constituency.

A statement signed by the Party's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong confirmed that nominations would be open from September 3 to September 5, 2024.

The election is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 8.

In an interview with Selorm Adonoo on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Anyenini highlighted that they had records of election fraud committed by the plaintiff.

Anyenini emphasised the evidence they had, including telephony call records and testimonies of individuals who claimed they were bribed to vote.

Despite the surprising turn of events, he acknowledged the rerun and expressed a wait-and-see approach regarding the outcome.

Anyenini indicated uncertainty about whether his client would give up on the re-run. "We had telephony call records of three persons and these records contained telephone contacts between agents of the plaintiff and these individuals one of them for example the agent spoke to that person a dozen times between the night before the election and the day of the election and people have come to court to say you gave them GHS3000 you gave them a number of goodies to go there and vote." "Meanwhile you labelled those people as people who are impersonators…You procure people to impersonate six dead people…We are surprised by the turn of events but well it is a rerun so let's see how it goes for them." "…I don't think he is going to give up.

It is just an expensive enterprise and then what you wanted to avoid was to go through another round of expense…I supposed he should be going about it now," he stated.
