The Electoral Commission's (EC) decision to rerun the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency has been fiercely contested by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which has described the move as unwarranted and lacking consensus.
NPP Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed, speaking on Citi Eyewitness News following the EC's July 2 press release, asserted that there was no agreement with the EC, despite the party's representatives being present at the meeting.
He stated, "That is very evident in the release of the EC itself-that the political parties did not agree." According to the EC, the reason for the rerun in 19 of the 37 polling stations is that the presiding officers failed to verify the scanned Pink Sheets used for collation.
Additionally, the original Pink Sheets were destroyed when party supporters overran the collation center.
