The Site Manager for the Lashibi Ramsar area has vehemently denied allegations that he took money from residents in exchange for allowing them to build in flood-prone areas.
His response comes after a demolition exercise carried out on Tuesday, May 27, by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, under the directive of Regional Minister Linda Ocloo.
The operation, led by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC), is part of a wider initiative to remove unauthorized structures built on waterways and restore the capital's natural drainage systems, particularly around ecologically sensitive areas like Tema, Klagon, and the Sakumo Ramsar site.
In an interview addressing the allegations, the site manager explained that his duties often put him in confrontational situations, forcing him to rely on a task force from the Forestry Commission's rapid response unit for protection. "When I come here alone, I'm often met with hostility, so I move with the task force," he recounted. "Around October, we came without any heavy machinery and manually demolished some walls belonging to the very woman accusing me today.
