The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced plans to reopen the Embassy of Ghana in Washington D.C.

on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

This comes after a temporary shutdown prompted by the discovery of significant corruption within the mission.

The closure followed revelations of a fraudulent scheme orchestrated by Fred Kwarteng, a local IT officer at the embassy, who was found to have redirected visa and passport applicants to a private company he secretly operated.
