The Minority in Parliament has raised strong concerns over what it calls the growing politicisation of state institutions, following the recent arrest of former National Food Buffer Stock Company CEO, Abdul Hannan Wahab, and his wife.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, July 1, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei described the arrest and subsequent bail conditions imposed on the couple as "excessive and politically motivated," warning that such actions only deepen distrust in state institutions. "We believe this is not about justice; it is political prosecution.

It is part of the broader pattern under the current NDC administration to use state institutions to intimidate perceived political opponents," she stated.

The couple was arrested during a coordinated operation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra and Tamale on June 25, 2025, and is currently facing charges including tax evasion, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.
