The image of armed officers arriving at Chairman Wontumi's residence has stirred debate across the political divide, but Deputy Interior Minister Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi believes the approach was entirely justified-especially given the NPP regional chairman's public posture.
Drawing a vivid analogy, Terlabi likened the operation to restraining a "wild dog," explaining that security forces had to be prepared for any reaction given Wontumi's past defiance and controversial remarks.
According to him, the visit was not random; it was informed by intelligence and meant to invite the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for questioning-not to intimidate or cause harm.
He emphasized that no one is above the law, including political figures, and the state's security institutions have both the right and the responsibility to act when necessary. "The security services are on top of their job, they know what they are about," he said during an interview with Citi FM, stressing that the officers did not arrive without reason or preparation.
