President John Dramani Mahama has rejected criticisms from former Vice President Dr.
Mahamudu Bawumia over the recent appreciation of the cedi, asserting that the currency's stability is the result of strong and purposeful leadership-not isolated policy interventions.
During an engagement with the Young Executive Forum (YEF) in London, Dr Bawumia challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to identify a policy responsible for the cedi's performance, arguing that its appreciation was due to strategic measures implemented under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, including the gold purchase program.
In a rebuttal during a meeting with the Catholic Bishops on Friday, May 23, Mahama dismissed the notion that a single policy was responsible for the currency's strength, instead emphasising the impact of leadership and governance. "Somebody says, point to one policy that you have implemented to make the cedi appreciate, and I said one policy?
