The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has raised alarm over what he describes as worrying actions by President John Dramani Mahama, cautioning that they could potentially incite instability in the country.

This follows an attempted raid on his house by officers from the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) and the Ghana Police Service on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Speaking on Asempa FM on Friday, May 23, Chairman Wontumi expressed deep concern about the president's recent conduct, suggesting that if appropriate caution is not exercised, the political climate could open the door to unconstitutional actions. "I am deeply concerned, and if care is not taken regarding the actions of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, I fear that some individuals might attempt a coup in this country," he warned.

Chairman Wontumi emphasised the need for all political actors, especially those in leadership, to respect the country's democratic institutions.
