A youth activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former parliamentary aspirant for the Adenta Constituency, Alfred Ababio Kumi, has been charged with publication of false news following his arrest by operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on Friday.

Kumi is accused of making unsubstantiated claims on his X (formerly Twitter) account and during a radio appearance, in connection with a petition he filed to the President seeking the dissolution of the committee probing the potential removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Kumi's petition centres on allegations of misconduct by members of the committee, which he believes could undermine the integrity of the inquiry.

He alleged that on May 15, 2025 - the day of the committee's inaugural sitting - Justices Gabriel Pwamang and Yaw Darko Asiedu, along with Supreme Court Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, were seen dining with lawyer Thaddeus Sory, who represents petitioner Daniel Ofori, at the upscale Santoku Restaurant in Accra's Airport Residential Area.
