A supervisor at the Osu Children's Home, Reindolf Dartey, has disclosed that the institution has not received its budgetary allocation for 2025.
He made this known on Thursday, May 22, 2025, during a visit by the Parliamentary Committee on Gender, Children, and Social Welfare.
He explained that while the government's failure to recruit caregivers remains a concern, the major challenge facing the home is inadequate funding. "Government is not employing caregivers, but with the issue of funding, you can just imagine: if we have a budget of about GH¢120,000 a month and receive a budget allocation of only GH¢16,000, how do we survive for the whole year?" he questioned.
He further disclosed that in 2024, the home received just GH¢16,000 in total, which was used entirely to settle electricity bills. "Our budget is fused into the Department of Social Welfare's allocation, which is why I spoke about our over-reliance on donations," he added.
