Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has expressed optimism about the strengthening of the Ghanaian cedi, praising the success of the government's "Gold for Forex" initiative and calling for a shift in political discourse from sabotage to service.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart shared a snapshot of the cedi trading at 14.91 to the dollar as of December 5, 2024, and reflected on the journey since he began highlighting improvements in the local currency's performance. "Long may the trend of a stronger cedi continue," he wrote. "I recall when I started posting daily updates on the strengthening trend of the cedi before December 7.

I was criticised for reminding Ghanaians of the poor state of the cedi and had to delete some posts!" Otchere-Darko praised the Vice President's economic strategy, stating, "Today, the Bawumia Formula of Gold for Forex has become the gold standard, so to speak." He further noted that other gold-producing nations, such as Namibia, are now adopting the approach.

He described the cedi's recovery as encouraging. "I am delighted to see the cedi regaining strength against the dollar, and long may it continue.
