The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has launched a targeted operation in Kaneshie and Abossey Okai to remove street children and their guardians from public spaces.
The exercise, carried out earlier on Friday, May 16, 2026, forms part of efforts to tackle the increasing presence of foreign street dwellers-particularly minors-in key commercial areas of Accra.
Several women and children, suspected to be foreign nationals, were picked up and transported in an immigration vehicle to an assembly point.
Officers were seen engaging with the individuals before relocating them from pavements and intersections where they are often found soliciting alms.
