Electricity consumers in the Bono Region who were over billed by the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) to the tune of GH¢ 16,263.74 in the first quarter of this year have been reimbursed.This follows complaints made by the affected consumers to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) after investigation were conducted by NEDCO.A total of 263 complaints were received by PURC while 257 were resolved for the same period.This came to light during the first quarter performance review meeting organised by PURC at Sunyani in the Bono Region on Friday.The meeting was to enable the utilities providers such as NEDCO and Ghana Water Limited (GWL) to brief the PURC on their activities.The Bono Regional Manager of PURC Patrick Antwi urged the utili­ties providers to do more community engagement with their consumers on their operations so as to enable them to appreciate the issues pertaining in their area.The Sunyani Area Engineer of NEDCO, Eric Ofori said his outfit was experiencing some challenges since January till date.According to him, in February two GRIDCO transformers sitting in the switch yard were over loaded ex­ceeding it capacity of 12.5 megawatts during peak hours.The general demand from the entire Sunyani public and surround­ing communities including Fiapre, chiraa reached 15.4 megawatts, and as a result we experienced some strips during peak hours compelling them to transfer some loads resulting in power outages.The Bono Regional Commercial Manager of GWL, Nii Abbey Nico­las said the company was currently rationing water to Berekum and Wamfie area because their water source had dried up. FROM DANIEL DZIRASAH SUNYANI
