Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo has raised serious concerns about the choice of venue for the ongoing hearing regarding her potential removal from office, describing it as a deliberate act of intimidation.
Speaking publicly for the first time since her suspension, at a press conference on Wednesday, June 25, Justice Torkornoo pointed to the symbolic and traumatic significance of the hearing location-Adu Lodge-which, she said, is associated with a dark episode in Ghana's judicial history.
According to her, the facility played a prominent role in the events leading to the gruesome murders of three High Court judges and a military officer, Major Sam Acquah, on June 30, 1981.
Justice Torkornoo revealed that Major Acquah was her uncle and guardian at the time of his abduction and killing, making the venue personally distressing.
