The newly confirmed Mayor of Tema, Ebi Bright, has outlined her vision for the city, pledging to draw on her extensive background in diplomacy and development communication to drive growth and create lasting opportunities for residents.
Speaking after her confirmation on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Friday, May 9, Bright emphasised that her leadership approach will be shaped by years of work with marginalised communities and international development partners, as well as her training as a diplomat and development communicator. "I am a development communicator and a diplomat by training," she stated, adding, "I work with marginalised communities and development partners to analyse the socio-economic, political, and cultural environment and be able to guide the change processes that are important to deliver development." Addressing public perceptions about her media background, Bright clarified that while media and entertainment have been visible parts of her life, they were never her primary professional path. "The media and entertainment have been a part of my life that I've had the privilege to enjoy, but it's never been my career," she said.
With her focus now firmly on Tema, she pledged to apply her skills in negotiation and communication to help guide the city through complex development challenges. "I bring to this position my wealth of experience in negotiation and in development communication to guide my people through the challenges that will prevent us from attaining development," Bright added.
As part of her administration's priorities, the new Mayor cited accelerated job creation, revitalisation of Tema's industrial identity, and youth empowerment through strategic partnerships as key pillars of her development agenda. "We are looking at accelerated job creation, we are looking at the industrial city… We are looking at relationships that allow our youth to thrive," she affirmed.
