The Progressive People's Party (PPP) is demanding an independent audit into how over GHS49 million meant for national security operations was spent, following the prosecution of former National Signals Bureau (NSB) boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene.
The party says the case, which involves allegations of funds being channelled into private and spouse-controlled accounts, raises serious concerns about oversight and accountability in Ghana's intelligence operations.
In a statement signed by National Chairman, Nana Ofori Owusu, the PPP questioned the integrity of the state's approach, suggesting it may be a distraction from more entrenched abuses within the security sector. "What is unfolding may be nothing more than a smoke screen to protect a deeper culture of abuse, evade genuine accountability, and silence those with knowledge of institutional wrongdoing," the statement said.
The PPP criticised the apparent lack of internal controls and documentation in handling classified funds, saying such conduct has no place in any national security setup. "No intelligence doctrine-foreign or domestic-permits such opaque conduct.
