Former Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has called out what he describes as blatant hypocrisy among critics of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), questioning their shifting stance on the removal of high-ranking officials from public office.

Speaking on Joy News' PM Express on Monday, Mercer drew parallels between the current suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and the previous dismissal of former Electoral Commission Chairperson Charlotte Osei.

He expressed concern over what he sees as selective outrage and a lack of consistency in how such matters are judged. "You hear our friends saying, 'Oh, after all, you did it to Charlotte Osei.' In any event, you and I know the circumstances that led to Charlotte Osei's removal-the infighting within their own circles at the Electoral Commission," he stated.

Mercer questioned the moral grounds of those who had previously decried Charlotte Osei's removal but now appear to endorse similar actions. "Those who said her removal was wrongful-how do they justify the removal of the Chief Justice at this point?
