Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has downplayed recent protests over the nomination of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), describing them as a normal part of Ghana's political culture.
Speaking on the matter in an interview on Citi FM's Eyewitness News on Monday April 14, Gbande cited examples from constituencies such as Pusiga, Mampong, and Tema, noting that out of the 120 to 150 DCE nominations announced so far, the number of protests has been relatively low.
He emphasised that none of the nominated candidates have been rejected, and the reactions are primarily from party members who had preferred other candidates.
Gbande explained that such protests reflect the high level of determination and commitment among the shortlisted candidates and their supporters. "If you mention one person's name, it's obvious that you are going to have some reactions from the other sides," he remarked.
