The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, , has explained what inspired the NDC to pursue the rescue mission as propagated in their 2024 election campaign.

He made this remark on Pan African TV's Talk Time, on April 12, 2025, while speaking about strides made by the John Dramani Mahama-led government in their first three months in power.

The MP for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese noted that it became obvious in 2020 that the country was headed downhill, and hence they needed to rescue Ghanaians from what he termed as bad leadership of the NPP. "It became obvious at a point, especially after the 2020 Election, that our country was headed towards a very slippery slope… Our economy was in total disarray; and arising out of that were severe hardships. "Unemployment was going out of the roof, and indeed there was a report that I don't know if you had seen, that the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) did.

In a particular year, I think 2023 or so, their research showed that up to 8.5million Ghanaians went to bed without food," he claimed.
