Charles Amos, the Assemblyman for Padmore Electoral Area, Tema Community One, has taken the initiative to repair broken streetlights across the community in a bid to improve security and reduce crime in the area.

According to Amos, the move has already helped to reduce incidents of robbery and other related crimes that usually occurred in poorly lit areas during the night, explaining that well-lit streets have made it difficult for criminals to operate under the cover of darkness.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that he decided to act after receiving several complaints from residents about the growing level of insecurity in some parts of the electoral area, particularly at night.

He further said that many of the complaints pointed to the fact that the absence of functioning streetlights was encouraging criminal activities in the area. "I realised that many of the streetlights had stopped working for some time and this was giving robbers the chance to attack innocent people, so I decided to repair them and since then, the attacks have reduced drastically," he stated.
