Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, has promised a smoother and more user-friendly process in the next phase of Ghana's SIM card registration exercise.

Speaking on Citi FM's Eyewitness News on Wednesday, April 9, the Minister expressed confidence in the restructured process, which he said would prioritize both efficiency and the Ghanaian user experience. "This is a human-centered, technology-driven exercise," George stated. "It will happen so seamlessly and without stress that most Ghanaians will ask themselves why they were saddled with eight years of misrule and mismanagement." The assurance comes on the back of frustrations experienced during the previous SIM re-registration campaign launched in 2021 under the Akufo-Addo administration.

That initiative required all SIM card holders to re-register using the Ghana Card, the national identity document, but it was marred by persistent challenges, including technical hitches, limited access to Ghana Cards, and low public participation.

As a result, the deadline had to be extended multiple times.
