Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reiterated the government's determination to deport all foreign nationals participating in illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.
Addressing members of the Ghanaian community in Lagos, Nigeria, the Minister stressed President Mahama's firm position on safeguarding the nation's natural resources. "President Mahama has said that he will not tolerate any form of mining in our river bodies or forest reserves," he stated.
He further announced that a military operation aimed at illegal miners would commence shortly. "In the next few days, we're going to round people up and prosecute them," he said, referencing the imminent military action.
Ablakwa revealed that while numerous deportations have already been carried out, they have not been widely publicized. "Already, a lot of deportations have been carried out.
