The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has invited the United States Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, for clarifications following President Donald Trump's decision to slap a 10% tariff on Ghanaian exports.
Ablakwa, in a statement posted on his social media, said the meeting will take place on the morning of Monday, April 7, 2025, at his office.
The invitation comes amid rising concern over the economic fallout of the tariff, which was announced on April 2 as part of a sweeping package of trade restrictions by the Trump administration, targeting countries including China, the European Union, and Ghana.
Local exporters and trade stakeholders have warned that the move could significantly disrupt Ghana's export sector and strain bilateral trade relations with the US.
