The collapse of a mining pit at Mpasatia, in the Atwima Mponua District of Ghana's Ashanti Region of the Ashanti region has claimed the lives of two individuals, whose bodies have been transported to the Afari Community Mortuary.
Rescue efforts have been underway since the early hours of Tuesday April 1 but the exact number of people still trapped underground remains uncertain.
Salifu Karim, the Assembly Member for the Mpasatia Ahembronum Electoral Area, confirmed the incident during an interview with Channel One News.
This calamity has cast a shadow over the region as authorities and rescue teams strive to recover any individuals who may still be trapped.
