The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has defended its decision to refer former Member of Parliament and Minister of State, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to its National Disciplinary Committee, clarifying that the move is not meant to silence members but to regulate the party's narrative.
Adwoa Safo was accused of violating a party directive that discourages public commentary likely to cause disaffection or unrest.
In a statement signed by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party cited her remarks on The Pulse on Joy News as a breach of this directive, emphasizing that such comments could undermine efforts to foster unity following the party's 2024 electoral defeat.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, March 20, NPP Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed stressed that the disciplinary action is not an attempt to suppress free speech but to ensure party discussions occur through the appropriate channels. "We have created a platform for members of the party to appear and speak, write, or present any fact that we think will be able to unearth the humiliating defeat that we got from the 2024 election.
