Former Deputy Finance Minister, Mona Quartey, has assured Ghanaians that the government's planned expenditure cuts will not negatively impact ordinary citizens or the private sector.
The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, on Tuesday, March 11, presenting the 2025 budget statement in parliament said: "We are implementing a form of "shock therapy" to the economy by making significant spending cuts this year, thereby reducing the government's financing needs and front-loading fiscal adjustment." Reacting to these statements by the finance minister on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, the former deputy finance minister emphasised that while expenditure reductions are a key part of the government's strategy, they will primarily target wasteful spending rather than essential services.
She further explained that rather than burdening citizens or businesses, the government aims to enhance support for the private sector and improve the overall quality of life for Ghanaians. "Most people who listened heard the minister saying we are going to cut expenditure.
That has already begun and that is going to be a major part of this year.
