The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has bemoaned the lack of streetlights on highways and major roads in the capital Accra, stressing the importance of improved lighting for public safety and economic activities.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, March 13, the GJA President, indicated that better-lit streets would enhance security, save lives, and promote nightlife activities, which align with the government's proposed 24-hour economy plan. "Movement on our roads at night has become a threat to life.

Apart from leading to accidents on our roads, including the knockdown of pedestrians, the absence of streetlights also fuels criminal activities, especially in quiet areas. "We respectfully call on the Department of Urban Roads and Ghana Highway Authority, as well as other relevant authorities, to fix the streetlights in order to save lives and bring back nightlife in our major cities." 150 Ghanaians face deportation from US for rape, fraud and illegal entry
