A combined operation involving the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) of the Forestry Commission and 30 military personnel has resulted in the seizure of nine excavators, a bulldozer, and the arrest of four individuals engaged in illegal mining activities within the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve in the Enchi Forest District of the Western North Region.

The successful operation, carried out on Sunday, 9th March 2025, targeted Compartments 17 and 20 of the forest reserve, which had become a hotspot for illegal mining, known locally as 'galamsey'.

According to official reports, this operation followed several earlier attempts to clamp down on illegal miners in the forest reserve.

On Tuesday, 4th March 2025, a team from the Enchi Forest District of the Forest Services Division (FSD) of the Forestry Commission, supported by the Rapid Response Unit, stormed the forest reserve after receiving intelligence about illegal mining activities.
