President John Dramani Mahama has called for a comprehensive review of the laws governing government procurement, as part of efforts to combat inefficiency and corruption in public spending, The President emphasised the need for greater transparency, accountability, and competition in the procurement process to ensure better value for taxpayers' money.

Speaking at the lunch of the National Economic Dialogue on Monday, February 3, 2025, President Mahama highlighted the urgent need to rationalise single-source procurement processes, which have often been criticised for lacking competition and leading to inflated costs. "We must review our laws to eliminate excessive waste in the procurement of government supplies and projects.

Single Source procurement must be the rare exception rather than the norm," he stated.

To address these issues, President Mahama proposed stricter regulations and oversight mechanisms, including value-for-money audits for government projects above a certain financial threshold. "We must also subject the government above a certain threshold for value for money audit," the president added.
