Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), Samuel Atta Mills, has expressed concern over the abandoned Komenda Sugar Factory, which was inaugurated by the then-NDC government, led by President John Mahama, in May 2016 but ceased operations shortly afterward.
He accused the NPP government, which took over shortly after the factory's inauguration, of neglecting the facility and allowing it to deteriorate. "Anyway, I understand because we built it, and we are going to make sure it works again for the good people of this country and also for the KEEA constituents," Atta Mills told MyNewsGh.com reporter Hajia Asana Gordon.
His comments followed a visit by the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare Esq., and her entourage to the Komenda Sugar Factory to assess its current state.
The MP expressed satisfaction with the minister's visit, saying, "I am very happy that I have seen the Minister for Trade and Industry here at the Komenda Sugar Factory because it is important that she has come to witness the condition of the factory firsthand." Atta Mills lamented the increasing rural-urban migration among youth in the KEEA constituency due to a lack of job opportunities. "We have a factory here that can employ at least 75,000 people.
