The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has directed banks to stop photocopying customers' Ghana Cards for transactions, warning that the practice is unauthorised and could lead to sanctions.
Deputy Head of Financial Integrity at BoG, Ashitei Trebi-Ollennu, stressed that biometric verification remains the approved method for identity authentication in financial transactions.
He warned that photocopying Ghana Cards increases the risk of fraud and compromises transaction security. "We have never instructed banks to photocopy Ghana Cards.
Doing so creates vulnerabilities that can be exploited for fraudulent activities," he stated.
