Former Deputy Finance Minister and current Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, Abena Osei Asare, has expressed concerns over the Ghanaian government's decision to approve a 10% salary increase for public sector workers under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), despite the country's soaring inflation rate.
Speaking in an interview with Pure TV Online on March 3, 2025, she recalled how, during her tenure as Deputy Finance Minister from 2017 to 2025, salary increments were guided by inflation rates to cushion workers.
She noted that in 2017, when inflation was at 11.8%, the base pay increase stood at about 10%.
Similarly, in 2018, inflation dropped to 11%, and base pay remained at 10%.
