The Majority caucus on the Appointments Committee has pushed through the recommendation of four deputy minister nominees vetted on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, despite the absence of the Minority caucus, which boycotted the process over a disagreement with the Committee Chairman, Bernard Ahiafor.
The dispute stemmed from a tense exchange between Bernard Ahiafor and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin after the latter asked Deputy Attorney-General and Justice Minister-designate, Justice Srem-Sai, to demonstrate a traditional dance.
The Chairman overruled the request, deeming it inappropriate, a decision that sparked protests from Afenyo-Markin, who accused Ahiafor of acting "whimsically" and treating the Minority unfairly.
Following a brief suspension, the Minority caucus returned but refused to take part in the process, citing concerns over how the vetting was handled.
