The German Ambassador to Ghana, Daniel Krull, has reaffirmed Germany's commitment to strengthening ties with Ghana following his country's historic election, which recorded an unprecedented 80% voter turnout, the highest since reunification in 1990.
Speaking at a German election watch party in Accra, Krull praised Ghana as a model of democracy in West Africa and expressed optimism about deepening collaboration between the two nations. "Ghana is a beacon of democracy in West Africa, and we take inspiration from its ability to conduct free and fair elections," Krull said. "Germany is committed to working closely with Ghana as we continue to build a strong partnership in trade, governance, and economic development." The 2025 German election saw a decisive victory for the Conservative CDU/CSU alliance, with Friedrich Merz positioned as the likely next Chancellor.
While acknowledging differences between the parties, Krull emphasized that the democratic process remains strong. "There might be nuances here and there, but all parties are willing to engage in discussions to form a government.
This is democracy at work." Anna Wasserfall, Resident Representative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Ghana, echoed Krull's sentiments, emphasizing Germany's longstanding commitment to working with West Africa. "Germany has always been open to fostering strong relationships with African countries, and this election only reaffirms our dedication to strengthening our engagement with Ghana," she said. .res-337{ width: 320px; height: 50px; } @media (min-width: 500px) { .res-337{ width: 336px; height: 280px; } } @media (min-width: 800px) { .res-337{ width: 728px; height: 90px; } } "Trade, diplomacy, and mutual cooperation remain at the heart of our partnership," she remarked.
