The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested ten suspects and seized nine firearms in separate operations at Akwatia in the Eastern Region ahead of the by-election scheduled for September 2, 2025.

"The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested ten suspects and retrieved nine weapons in separate operations at Akwatia as part of ongoing security operations ahead of the by-election in the Eastern Regional town," the post stated.
The police added that "the weapons include eight pump-action guns and one locally manufactured single-barrel gun.
These seizures form part of intensified efforts to prevent the unlawful possession and use of weapons during the electoral process." On August 22, 2025, the police intercepted a vehicle being driven by one of the suspects.
