The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has removed former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta from its list of wanted persons after he committed to voluntarily returning to Ghana for questioning.
In a statement dated February 18, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng explained that Ofori-Atta had been declared a fugitive after failing to provide a reasonable timeline for his return despite being directed to appear before the OSP in Accra.
However, a recent communication from Ofori-Atta's lawyers indicated a specific return date, leading to a reconsideration of his status. "The OSP has deemed Mr.
Ofori-Atta's stated date of voluntary return to the jurisdiction reasonable in the circumstances," the statement read. "As a result, he has been removed from the list of wanted persons." The OSP, however, cautioned that should Ofori-Atta fail to return as promised or miss his scheduled appearance at the OSP, his name would be reinstated on the wanted list, and all necessary legal steps would be taken to secure his return.
