Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has fiercely criticized the recent raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, describing it as unlawful and a demonstration of the government's disregard for due process.

In a statement, Amidu accused the Mahama administration of attempting to deceive the public and acting with "contempt and disrespect" toward Ghanaians.

According to Amidu, the appointment of Richard Jakpa as Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat does not grant him the authority to apply for or execute warrants, particularly in matters concerning national security. "The appointment of Richard Jakpa as Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat does not make him an employee of one of the two Intelligence Agencies, let alone to have been designated to apply for a warrant and to lead an execution of a lawful warrant at the Rambo-style raid of Ken Ofori-Atta's home," he wrote.

Amidu clarified that the power to apply for and execute such warrants rests solely with the National Security Council, not the National Security Secretariat or the National Security Coordinator. "The supervising body of the two Intelligence Agencies that have the power to apply for warrants is the National Security Council and not the National Security Secretariat or the National Security Coordinator," he stated.
