Ghanaian actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has assured his fellow creatives of his support for the creative arts industry, despite his recent appointment as Deputy Minister-Designate for Food and Agriculture and his responsibilities as a Member of Parliament. Speaking at the launch of Celestine Donkor's 11th Celestial Praiz concert on February 6, 2025, Dumelo expressed his admiration for the gospel musician and pledged his continuous backing for her initiatives.Acknowledging his roots in the arts sector, he stated, "Despite the fact that I am an MP now and I am in the Agric Ministry, I still will not forget where I came from, which is the arts sector, and I will always be an arts person.
I will always be a creative person, and if we don't develop our own, who else will develop it for us?" The lawmaker further highlighted the significant role the creative arts industry plays in the national economy, dismissing notions that undermine its impact.
He emphasized the need for collective efforts to nurture and promote local talent.
