The Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited, Mr Adam Mutawakilu, has assured residents of Ho and customers in the catchment area of a lasting solution to the current water crisis in the area.
Residents of Ho, Kpeve, Have, Peki, Ziavi and several others have been without adequate water supply since the start of the year following the reoccurring breakdown of all three pumps at the Kpeve water intake leading to a total shutdown of the facility last week.
But the Managing Director, Mr Adam Mutawakilu who visited the facility with engineers, barely a week in office, revealed that the company has assessed the situation fully and has put in place urgent measures to restore water supply to the affected communities in the coming days. "This water treatment plant started operating since 1993 with three pumps and the only time a new pump was supplied was 2015 but I would have thought that with this age, provision should have been made to replace the obsolete pumps but it was left," he lamented. "But when it happened, the engineers were here, they worked throughout the weekend to make sure that water is made available to the people but unfortunately, the pump we had is not a new one and the capacity is low but thankfully, I have instructed they bring two extra pumps to see how they can help pump the water to the heads so that at least, to get water for now," he assured.
He further emphasized that President John Mahama is deeply concerned about the water crisis in Ho and remained committed to addressing the issue.
