A 30-year-old farmer identified as Kwasi Zachari alias Halidu has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for defiling a 13-year-old girl who is deaf and dumb.   Zachari pleaded guilty on the charge of defilement and was convicted on his own plea and handed this jail term accordingly by the court presided over by Mrs Hathia Ama Manu.  Prosecution, led by Police Chief Inspector Abraham Ayitey, stated that the complainant, a trader and mother of the victim, resides at Wassa Bawdie Adonnoi in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality with both the victim and Kwasi Zachari.

On December 17, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the complainant left the victim at home and attended a funeral service in the community.

During this time, Zachari, who was returning from his landlord's house, encountered the victim and engaged her in conversation using sign language.

He then lured her to an abandoned sawmill on the outskirts of town, where he sexually assaulted her.
